The Prescription Safety Act of 2012 will sunset this year without action from our legislators. This act changed voluntary reporting of controlled substances dispensed to a requirement and required the reporting period to decrease from 30 days to seven days.
It also requires a prescriber to check the database before writing a new prescription for a controlled substance. In a recent survey, a third of doctors said they are now more likely to refer a patient to treatment. There has also been a reduction in the amount of controlled substances being dispensed. If you believe that these are good measures to have in place, please let your legislator know!
